Grady Haugerud is a a self- taught artist who utilizes spontaneous
drawing and painting as a way of channeling nature and liberating
the creative energies of the unconscious mind.
He allows the viewer to experience the vast, never-ending beauty,
and amazing complexities in Nature that surround us. His raw and emoting
style, reveal his fascination with the chaos and harmony that coexist
within Nature and it is evident in every element of his work.
Grady explains that when creating a drawing, the first marks are put
down quickly and spontaneously. These marks come to him mostly from
his surroundings… his garden, the sky, insects, trees, rocks,
animals and landscapes. He returns to the piece adding fine detailing,
shading and color.
Every piece is an experiment, and evolves in it's own way. By using
a limited amount of materials and sometimes found objects, Grady gives
his artwork an organic and pure effect.
Grady is heavily influenced and inspired by the Abstract Expressionist,
Surrealist, and Dada Movements. In the genre of Jackson Pollock, Pablo
Picasso and Joan Miro, you can see how their work impulses his inspiration
to create art. Grady loves the positive feedback he receives, when
he sees people enjoying his artwork. “It's the greatest feeling
for me!”-Grady Haugerud
